I talk to myself too much

Post by Guest on Sun Oct 21, 2012 3:25 am

And by talking to myself I mean constantly having conversations and asking questions to myself in my head. It's hard to explain. Besides just normal conversations and mini-debates and shit, I tend to think of myself as another person and ask myself things like I wouldn't know. For example: Sometimes when I see something cool I think to myself, "Did you see that?" or something along those lines, which creates a conversation with myself about how of course I would see that because there's no one else there besides me and it's all very confusing and MIND FUCKING.

Other times I will ask myself how I feel about something; like I expect myself to have an actual opinion that is different from my current one just because I can't stop fucking up and thinking that someone else is there.

It's very confusing and it's getting to the point where I just don't even stop to think about how I'm responding to myself like I'm an entirely different mind. Even now I still feel like I'm talking to someone as I read this over in my head. It feels weird that no one is responding to myself besides me.

Dunno if I should be concerned or not.

Tell the difference between what is real and not real

    Think clearly

    Have normal emotional responses

    Act normally in social situations"

Ptero, you're probably confusing Schizophrenia with Multiple Personality Disorder. I guess that's possible, but I doubt it's something that extreme. If you don't experience the first of the listed effects, you probably don't have schizophrenia.

And level, you should probably see a psychiatrist. I'm pretty sure internal monologues of some sort aren't that uncommon, but if feels like your mind is occupied by two different selves, than you should definitely seek help.

The asking myself questions thing happens to me too. It kind of disconcerts me when it happens.

yeah, really. If people had to self-diagnose themselves, *almost* every single human being on planet earth would have ADD, 40% of people would be bi-polar, 75% of all people would have OCD, and the average human being would have cancer (that magically disappears) a good four or five times a decade.

Really, don't try and self-diagnose yourself. See a doctor. There's a certain level that each symptom has to have. Most people have the same issues with time management and controlling distractions that are associated/a part of ADHD, but it's how extreme these things manifest, how much these things affect the person that actually determines the diagnosis. Just because you're an introvert does not mean you have any of the 10,000 disorders where some aspect of introversion is a side effect.

Thanks Level :) I've spent quite a few idle minutes thinking about the things you used to talk with me about and that's one of the most likely things I've heard of so far, but I still don't feel like I nailed it.

You'd have to not enjoy things, but you enjoy making music and drawing and writing and butts :)

So I don't think you're really crazy, and plus the DSM-IV came up with an awesome little tool to decide just how crazy someone really is! You see, when we started to delve deeper into the psyche of abnormal psychology we learned that most of us are at least a little crazy... but how crazy is too cray-cray?
